William R. "Bill" Dunn
William R. "Bill" Dunn, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died early Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Fort Scott, the son of Clarence Dunn and Nema Comstock Dunn. Bill Graduated from the Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1952. He served with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and had been stationed in Germany. Following his military service he married Wanda "Jay" Carpenter on May 14, 1961, at Fort Scott. In earlier years, Bill had worked for MW Kellogg Construction Company. He graduated from the Missouri Auction School in 1969 and in 1972, started Bill Dunn Auction Service. In 1980, he started Dunn Transfer and Storage Co. He later bought Pittsburg Transfer in 1989. Bill conducted his last auction in June of 2008. Bill enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing and playing pool and poker. He was a member of the Memphis Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Jay, of the home; a daughter, Rhonda Dunn, a son, Mike Dunn and wife, Clara, and a granddaughter, Hannah Dunn, all of Fort Scott. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Dunn and a brother, Jack Dunn.
Pastor Tim O'Neal will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the V.F.W. and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main St., P.O.
