Mildred Kathryn Durham

Mildred Kathryn Durham, age 102, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Guest Home Estates. She was born July 3, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Charles C. and Bertha Mae Franklin Latham. She graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1931. She attended Central Business College in Kansas City, Mo., graduating in 1932 and accepted a position in bookkeeping with a beauty supply company. Mildred's Christian faith began in high school and was strengthened in the past 68 years with ministries in the First Church of God. She married Glendon E. Durham on July 4, 1933, in Lexington, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1988. Mildred worked as head cook for Fort Scott High School and retired as manager of the cafeteria in 1973. She later worked for Mercy Hospital. During her life, she collected, repaired and refinished antique furniture.

Survivors include one son, John Durham and wife Joy, Sherman, Texas; three grandchildren, John Durham II and wife Sharon, Fresno, Calif., Glendon Durham II and wife Stephanie, Covington, Lou; and Noelle Miller and husband Clark, Rockwall, Texas. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Christopher Lee Durham and wife Janessa and Aaron Brooks Durham of Fresno, Calif.; Glendon William Durham and Ashton Noah Durham, Covington, La., and Zachary Ragsdale of Rockwall, Texas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles C. Latham.

Rev. John Durham will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Mo. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. at Cheney Witt Chapel until leaving for the cemetery at 10:40 a.m. Memorials are suggested to the Guest Home Estates Activity Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
