FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Crest at Uniontown
Uniontown's football team was shown some respect this week when the Hutchinson News put the 2-0 Eagles at No. 3 in its Eight-Man Division I poll. The other polls in Kansas (The Wichita Eagle, the Topeka Capital-Journal, K-Preps.com) have Uniontown in their others receiving votes/under consideration categories.
What brought the Eagles notice, at least from Hutchinson, was their 44-14 win at Madison/Hamilton last week. The Bulldogs have been a State power in recent seasons. They may be 0-2 right now, but their other loss is to Spearville in the season opener. The Lancers are No. 2 in Hutchinson's poll and appear in the rankings of the other polls.
If Hutchinson's recognition says nothing else, it says that the Eagles are the class of Southeast Kansas Eight-Man football right now. And it will get a chance to strengthen its case for the other polls tonight when it hosts Crest in Three Rivers League play. The Lancers are 1-1, coming off a loss to Marmaton Valley.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Uniontown.
