Greyhounds split at Iowa tourney

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Fort Scott Community College volleyball, ranked No. 11 in NJCAA Division II, went 2-2 in the Marshalltown Invitational over the weekend.

In their first match Friday, the Greyhounds (11-4) defeated Southeast (Neb.) in five sets, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10. Brette Moore registered 17 kills in the match while Julia Stringer recorded 11. Mickey Trimble handed out 26 assists while Morgan McNeley dished 18. Emily Bruce, the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Aug. 29, came up with 50 digs.

The Greyhounds took Southwestern (Iowa) to five sets before falling, 17-25, 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 15-7. Brandi Huesman had 14 kills while Moore finished with 11. McNeley recorded 21 assists and Trimble 20. Bruce finished with 42 digs while Fallyn Ozbun had 21. Rachel Dugan had 6 blocks and Brianna Bogan had 5.

In the first match Saturday, No. 7-ranked Lincoln Land, Ill., took a win in four sets, 25-21, 25-23, 14-25, 25-12. Stringer had 12 kills, Trimble 14 assists, McNeley 12 assists and Bruce 27 digs.

Finally, Fort Scott swept the Graceland University junior varsity, 25-16, 25-15, 25-15. Moore and Stringer each had 7 kills. Trimble was credited with 15 assists and McNeley 11. Bruce came up 24 digs. Dugan had 5 blocks.

The Greyhounds travel to Coffeyville for a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division match Wednesday night.
