Leon Wright
Leon Wright, age 69, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Leon was born April 25, 1946 in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Noble Sylvester and Goldie Maye Wright. Leon grew up in Fort Scott and graduated Fort Scott Christian Heights in 1964 and then left home to attended Kansas City College and Bible School (KCCBS). After completing his studies at KCCBS he married Alice Darlene Bailey June 25, 1966, and began working in the printing industry until he decided to pursue what would become his lifelong career and passion. Leon was taught at a young age, by his sister Katherine and continued to develop his God given talent of the piano. He completed his certification from American School of Piano Tuning in June of 1973 and took a leap of faith into the world of self-employment, starting what would become almost 40 years of servicing, teaching and playing the piano. He taught many students during his early years at that little Stalken Music Studio in Quapaw, Okla., and raised three boys, Kenton, Alan and Stacen, hence the name of his studio, and one girl, Darla. Leon moved to Seneca, Mo., after his divorce and started Creekside Piano and Sound, which is the company that he retired, at the age of 66, after an illness that hospitalized him with weeks of recovery following. Leon battled with diabetes most of this adult life, but he never let it get in the way of serving what become a legacy of service, to what I'd call, one of the biggest church families anyone could ever have. Leon played in almost every church in the surrounding area and served with some of the most talented area musicians. He became well known and loved as the Piano Man.
Leon was survived by his three sons and daughter and eight grandchildren, Daira Wright, Paige Wright, Andrew Wright, John David (JD) Wright, Kaitlyn Gooch, Skyler Gooch, Lucas Gooch and new adopted grandson Eugenio Antonio Wright. Leon grew up in a large family of 11 with seven surviving siblings, Kenny Wright, Gary Wright, Nathan Wright, Melba Hall, Freda Russell, Betty Kelso, and Dorothy Ann Reynolds. He was preceded in death by James Kenton Wright, Jerry Wright, Katherine Harms and Charlotte Eichelberger.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home in Seneca, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at First Assembly of God Church in Seneca, Mo. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel.
