JV tennis opens Tigers' sports year

The junior varsity tennis team became the first Fort Scott High School athletic team to take the field this academic year when it hosted a quadrangular Monday. No team scores were kept.

Abury Terry played No. 1 singles for the Tigers. She lost to Sagan Shire of Independence, 6-1, in her first match. She defeated Judy Branstetter of Iola in her second match, 6-3. Nicole Konopelko of Pittsburg won the final match, 6-0.

Calli Colvin played No. 2 singles. She fell in her first match to Chelsea Cushing of Independence, 6-0, and in her last match to Kamryn Kelley of Pittsburg, 6-2. In between, she defeated Jennifer Tidd of Iola, 6-3.

Britni Addington and Abbie Houston filled the No. 1 doubles slot. They lost to Amanda Trout and Clare Bindley of Independence, 6-3, in their opener. Next, they defeated Iola's Tori Danford and Sloan Geddry, 6-1. In the final match, they lost 6-1 to Maddie Baden and Alexis Pichler of Pittsburg, 6-1.

Savanah Dixon and Patience Richwine played No. 2 doubles but lost all three matches. Emma Stoner and Alexis Clapp of Independence to a 6-1 win. Macayla Bycroft and Erin Blubek of Iola took the second match, 6-1. Gina Mattew and Devon Coulter of Pittsburg won the final match, 6-0.

The next outing for the JV team will be Tuesday for a dual at Pittsburg. The first varsity event is scheduled for Thursday at the Parsons Invitational.
