Greyhounds No. 20 in pre-season Div. II poll

Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team is ranked No. 20 in the National Junior College Athletic Association pre-season Division II volleyball poll, released Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, 31-9 last season as they finished as Region VI-District N runner-up to Kansas City, begin their season today as they host their own invitational at Arnold Arena. The first match both today and tomorrow begins at 11 a.m. Fort Scott plays at 1 p.m. today against Wentworth Military (Mo.) and 7 p.m. versus Brookhaven. Saturday, they face East Central (Mo.) at 11 a.m. and Labette at 7.

Parkland, Ill., will open the season as the nation's top-ranked team followed by Glendale, Ariz., and Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division rival Cowley. Conference rival Johnson County is ranked No. 13 and Kansas City comes in at No. 15.

Glendale beat Parkdale in the finals of last year's national tournament at Phoenix in five sets.

The Tribune previewed FSCC in Wednesday's edition. The Jayhawk Conference pre-season poll was announced late Tuesday afternoon with Fort Scott picked to finish fourth in the East. Cowley, the defending champion, and Johnson County were picked to tie for first followed by Kansas City, then the 'Hounds, Coffeyville, Neosho County, Highland, Labette and Allen tied for eighth, and Independence last.
