Jason E. Silvers/Tribune photo Lane Smith, left, portraying Gen. Robert E. Lee of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, and Randal L. Durbin as Gen. Ulysses S. Grant of the U.S. Army of the Potomac, discuss the terms of Lee's surrender at the end of the Civil War during a Friday evening program at the Fort Scott National Historic Site. About 30 people attended the three-act dramatic play centered around the long-anticipated meeting of foes. The two generals met on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Court House in Virginia to discuss terms of Lee's surrender, and again on April 10 to sign the documents which ended the fighting between their two armies.
