Babe Ruth 13s in action beginning Weds.
Fort Scott's Dave Regan Stadium will host the Kansas Babe Ruth Baseball District 5 Tournament beginning Wednesday with the local team drawing a bye until Thursday.
The six-team, double-elimination tournament will be held through Sunday. There will be two games each day except Saturday, when there will be three.
The first game will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday when Spring River, a team with players from the Riverton/Galena area, takes on Frontenac. That will be followed by the other first-round game between Columbus and Pittsburg.
Thursday's play begins at 6 p.m. with Independence taking on the winner of the Spring River-Frontenac game. Fort Scott awaits the Columbus-Pittsburg winner for an 8 p.m. contest.
Eliminaton games will be held Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday's play begins with the winner's bracket final at 11 a.m. with elimination games to follow at 1 and 3 p.m.
The championship will be determined on Sunday. Play begins at 1 p.m. If the team coming from the losers' bracket wins that game, another game will be played at 3 p.m.
The winner of this tournament will advance to State Tournament play at Cottonwood Falls to begin on either July 22 or 23. The state champion advances to the MWP Regional Tournament at Booneville, Mo. July 29-Aug. 3.
