Harper takes pair of events at Crest meet

HUMBOLDT -- Uniontown's track team came away with a number of top finishes at the Crest Invitational here Thursday.

Shalina Harper raced to a pair of firsts, taking the 800 meters in 2:36 and winning the girls' 1,600 meters in 6:05. She also came in fourth in the javelin with a mark of 96 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

Jimme Keller picked up a fifth in the girls' 200 meters in 29.50 and a fifth in the 400 in 1:09.99.

Nikki Bolinger ran fourth in the 3,200 in 16:12.

The girls' 4x100 relay came in fifth in 57.74 with a team of Lorenza Burris, Tori Reed, Harper, and Keller.

In the boys' events, the 4x100 relay captured first place in a time of 45.4, made up of Cole Schafer, Tommy Joles, Josh Wisely, and John Reed.

Schafer took second in the 200 meters in 23.87 and was third in the long jump at 18' 8".

Wisely finished third in the 200 in 23.94 and Joles was sixth in 26.12.

Austin Ehrman was fourth in the 400 in 57 seconds flat.

Ben George finished sixth in the high jump, clearing 5' 2".

The 4x400 relay turned in a sixth place time of 3:57.20 with Davis, George, Ehrman, and Joles.

"Crest hosted this meet at the Humboldt Sports Complex, UHS head coach Jackie Hall said. "What a wonderful venue. It was all rubberized runways, which was a great asset, as we did have a 20-minute rain delay. But we were able to complete the meet."

Uniontown's girls finished fifth as a team with 34 points while the boys were seventh with 37. Waverly won the girls' championship and Southern Coffey County took the boys' crown.

The Eagles head to Jayhawk-Linn Thursday for the Three Rivers League Relays. The following week, the Class 2A Regional will be held at Herington.

NOTES -- Herington, by the way, is 60 miles north then west of Emporia. The other schools in this Regional will be Allen-Northern Heights, Canton-Galva, Chase County, Colgan, Elbing Berean Academy, Hetington, Howard-West Elk, Inman, Little River, Lyndon, Moundridge, Olpe, Oswego, Peabody, and Yates Center....
