John Joseph Hennessy, Jr.

John Joseph Hennessy, Jr., age 84, resident of Fulton, Kan., died Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott. He was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of John Joseph Hennessy, Sr. and Gertrude Shannon Hennessy. He joined the United States Marines after high school. He was quickly deployed during the Korean War. John was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his service. After the military, he taught school in Hollywood, Calif., then in Colorado Springs, Colo. He then taught industrial arts at a mental hospital in Pueblo, Colo. John was very close to his grandparents and greatly enjoyed working on their family farm of over 100 years in Fulton. He enjoyed pheasant hunting in season. He had a great love for our country and was very proud of his service. He was a member of the Community Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann South and husband David, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Erin Hennessy, Aurora, Colo.; a son, Shan Hennessy, Aurora, Colo.; a brother Charles Hennessy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Fulton, Kan. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the Chapel.
