Man injured when motorcycle hit head-on
A Fort Scott man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on East Wall Street.
Local emergency personnel responded just before 1 p.m. to a crash that involved a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV driven by Jennifer Houston, 28, of Fort Scott, and a 2001 Honda motorcycle driven by 50-year-old Harold Page, also of Fort Scott. Fort Scott Police Chief Travis Shelton said police received the call about 12:52 p.m. for a vehicle accident in the area of Wall and Caldwell streets.
Houston, who was headed east on Wall Street, attempted an "avoidance maneuver," swerving to avoid an animal in the road, when her vehicle struck the westbound motorcycle head-on, throwing Page from his vehicle and onto the hood and windshield of Houston's vehicle, Shelton said.
Two young children riding in the SUV, Noah Boudreaux and Lyza Houston, were wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash and were not injured. Houston was also not hurt in the crash, according to the police report. It was unclear as to whether Houston was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Shelton said Page, who was not wearing a helmet or safety equipment, was transported by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital Fort Scott to be treated for injuries. Mercy spokeswoman Tina Rockhold said Monday that Page was treated and released.
Both vehicles involved in the crash sustained front-end damage, Shelton said.
