Calvin Arnold Reicheneker
Calvin Arnold Reicheneker, age 89, a resident of Hidden Valley Lake, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at his home. He was born April 24, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Fred Reicheneker and Maude Dingey Reicheneker. Calvin served with the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in Europe and North Africa. He received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during service to his country. He married Emma Della Heritage on Dec. 24, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2008. Calvin had worked as a pallet loader operator for Colgate-Palmolive in Kansas City for 38 years. Following his retirement, Calvin and Emma moved permanently to their lake home at Hidden Valley Lake. Calvin loved nature and enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed playing pool and pitch.
Survivors include his three children; Linda Vaughn, of Bonner Springs, Kan., Brenda Henderson, of the home and Rick Reicheneker, of Manitou Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Maxine Alexander and Merlyn Cain, both of Overland Park, Kan., and a brother, Jack Reicheneker, of Kansas City, Kan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bige and Fred Reicheneker and two sisters, Ruth Moore and Lucille Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., where military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel as well as on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the chapel.
