Three Tigers honored in SEK
Three members of Fort Scott High School's boys' basketball team were honored with All-Southeast Kansas League status in a vote conducted recently by league coaches.
The teams are picked prior to the post-season but are held until all SEK teams have completed post-season play.
Junior guard Kaleb DeLaTorre represents Fort Scott on the First Team. He is joined by unanimous picks Tate Turner of Independence, Zack Stewart of Labette County and Derek Sharp of Chanute, all seniors. Anthony Swift of Coffeyville completes the First Team.
Fort Scott senior guard Jake Bradbury was chosen to the Second Team along with Parsons senior Isiah Taylor, Pittsburg juniors Dylan Untereker and Kyle Smith and Independence senior Kyle Rinck.
Tiger senior forward Mason Knopp was chosen to a spot on the Honorable Mention list. He is joined by seniors Elyjah Lyons of Parsons, Jake Mattox of LCHS and Marquise Johnson of Independence and juniors Aaron Haviland of Chanute and Seth Graham of Coffeyville.
Independence was the league champion while Fort Scott finished in second place. The Tigers and Chanute -- which upset Indy in the first round of Sub-State -- qualified for the Class 4A-Division I State Tournament while Parsons was a State qualifier in Class 4A-Division II. The Tigers (16-7) lost to Ottawa in the first round while Chanute (11-12) fell to eventual champion McPherson. Parsons (13-10) lost in the first round of the 4A-II State tourney to eventual champion Holcomb.
NOTE: The All-SEK girls' basketball team will be published on Friday with the All-SEK wrestling team to be published Saturday.
