Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Alice Belle Clayton went to meet her Savior on Nov. 23, 2014. Alice Belle (Serviss) Clayton was born on March 20, 1934 in Bonner Springs, Kan., to John Henry and Alice Belle (Cullison) Serviss.

Alice was united in marriage with Joe Dave Clayton on Dec. 22, 1956. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1993. They lived in Kansas City, Kan., and Bonner Springs before settling in the Uniontown area in 1972. While in Kansas City, Alice worked for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 20 years. After their move, she became the secretary for Uniontown High School until her retirement in 2001. As the high school secretary Alice came into contact with innumerable students. She could remember their names, sibling's names and was always glad to hear an update on how they were doing. In her travels on this earth she met countless people and the words they have used to describe her include loving, caring, concerned, happy, ornery, fun-loving and more.

Alice loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always happy to see them. Alice had numerous friends who were faithful to take her along for a good time and thoughtfully visited her during her stay in Medicalodges. She also enjoyed the staff of Medicalodge who loved, teased, tattled (Alice's word) and took such good care of Alice while she was there.

As a member of the Uniontown Baptist Church, the church family was always a blessing to her. She was also a member of ABW, the Red Hat Society and was the reigning president of the Resident Counsel of Medicalodge. Playing bingo delighted her and in the last few years she found that she enjoyed painting as well.

Survivors include her three children, David Clayton and wife Lori, Ottawa, Kan., Sherri Hartman and husband Mark, Uniontown, Kan., and Dianna Helget and husband Rusty, Onaga, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Courtney Hartman, Emily Hamm and husband Tim, Josh Hartman, Zachary Clayton, Robin Helget, Tyler Helget and Lucas Helget; and three great-grandchildren Madison Hartman, Bowen Hamm and Brianna Cearley; She is also survived by a brother Calvin Serviss and wife Audrey, one sister-in-law Peggy Serviss and one brother-in-law John Scott. Alice was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Albert Serviss and one sister, Ruth Scott.
