Fort Scott High had the first play from scrimmage in Friday night's Class 4A-Division I Sectional Playoff Game at Frary Field against No. 1-ranked Bishop Miege. And it was a 34-yard run by running back Brendyn Quinney.

Although the Tigers' drive stalled and Bishop Miege was able to make three big plays on its first drive, the Tigers were able to keep the Stags off the scoreboard when Quinney intercepted a pass in the end zone for a touchback.

The rest of the night, unfortunately, belonged to Miege (11-0), which scored four touchdowns in the the final 5:41 of the first quarter on its way to a 47-0 victory.

The Stags advance to a Sub-State game at Kansas City-Piper next Friday night. The Pirates (10-1) defeated Paola, 24-14, eliminating the other qualifier from District 4.

Miege gained 632 yards of total offense, 421 on the ground. Junior running back Dawson Downing rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. He scored the first Stag touchdown on a 9-yard run with 5:41 on the clock in the opening stanza. The Tigers (9-2) blocked Sean Galey's extra-point kick.

Miege recovered a fumble on Fort Scott's first play from scrimmage after the kickoff, then scored four plays later when quarterback Ryan Willis rolled to his right almost out of bounds and slinged it to Jafar Armstrong in the end zone with exactly four minutes on the clock. The Stags faked a kick on the extra point, but the run was stopped.

The Tigers were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct on the touchdown and Miege executed an onside kick from the Fort Scott 45-yard line, which the Stags recovered. Five plays later, Willis kept it himself to the left side for a 20-yard score with 3:06 to go. Galey's PAT made it 19-0.

After a short punt, Downing scored his second touchdown on a 16-yard run with 15 seconds left in the quarter with the PAT making it 26-0.

The Tigers kept their next drive alive when Kaleb DeLaTorre rushed for 34 yards on a fake punt to get the ball to the Miege 42. They were able to get to the 12 yard line but a 10-yard rushing loss on third down and a personal foul penalty tacked on forced the Tigers to punt from the 37.

The Stags were pinned back on their own 5 after the kick. But Willis found Armstrong for a 45-yard gain on the first play. Then backup quarterback Nolan Gray lined up in the pistol and kept the ball over the left side to score from 50 yards out, making it 33-0 with 7:09 left in the first half.

Willis threw to Chris Ford in the end zone on a 26-yard pass with 3:26 left in the half to make it 40-0. Miege also got down to the Fort Scott 7 with 45 seconds left in the half but the Tigers were able to force an incomplete pass.

Miege already had 271 yards of offense at the half to Fort Scott's 83. Downing did not play in the second half and Willis did not throw another pass, finishing 11 of 19 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Armstrong caught five of those passes for 137 yards.

The entire second half was played with a running clock. Backup running back T.J. Goodwin posted the final score of the night on a 51-yard run with 8:58 left in the third.

Fort Scott finished the game with 117 yards of offense, 84 on the ground. Quinney was the Tigers' rushing leader with 37 yards on 4 carries.

In the Sectionals on the west half of the bracket, defending 4A champ Buhler beat Andover Central, 38-14, and Topeka Hayden won at Mulvane, 34-12
