Taylor goes for 211 in Greyhound win

INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott Community College running back Devin Taylor ran for 211 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries here Saturday night as the Greyhounds beat Independence, 24-3, in Jayhawk Conference action.

Taylor's fifth 200-yard game of the season lifted his season total to 1,528 yards, which continues to lead the nation. He scored both of Fort Scott's touchdowns in the second quarter, which put the Greyhounds ahead 14-3 at the half. The first came on a 29-yard run and the second on a 4-yard plunge with 2:17 remaining in the period.

Blayke Lindenman made a 29-yard field goal with 4:57 on the clock in the third quarter. Marc Walbridge connected with Shawn Thomas on a 30-yard pass play with 3:34 left in the game.

Taylor averaged 4.3 yards per carry for the Greyhounds (3-4 Jayhawk, 4-5 overall), who rushed for 227 of their 288 total yards. Independence managed 233 yards in total offense, 137 in the air.

Walbridge completed 4 of 8 passes for 61 yards with Thomas catching 3 of them for 58 yards.

Linebacker Gabe Lloyd made 12 tackles for the 'Hound defense, which sacked Independence quarterback Evan Lassiter three timrs. The 'Hounds made eight tackles for a loss.

Independence (0-6, 0-9) lost its 16th consecutive game and its 12th in a row in conference play.

Fort Scott faces a challenge Saturday when Iowa Western, the 2012 national champion and 2013 national runner-up, comes to town for a non-conference game. Kickoff against the No. 2 Reviers (9-0) will be at 1 p.m. at Frary Field.
