UHS golfers compete at State
Uniontown's Kyley Brown tied for 47th overall with a score of 120 at the state golf tournament at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
Teammate Kaylyn Crystal finished in a tie at 63 with a 128.
Laryn Thompson was tied at 79 with a 142.
The top two teams in the State were both from the same regional as the Eagles.
"That goes to show you that our Regionals and local tournaments are pretty tough and we host some good golfers," noted Uniontown Coach Jason Tourtillott.
"I am really proud of our girls for having such a good season and advancing to the State Tournament.
"Our biggest goal was to gain valuable experience and knowledge that can help these girls next season," said the coach.
"Our best score was turned in by first-year golfer Kyley Brown with a 120. She has come a long way from where she started. She continues to get better and loves the game so I think next year will be a break out season for her.
"She hit some great shots all day. She just had a few holes that gave her some problems and that's the difference of a possible medal and what she shot.
"Kaylyn Crystal is a second-year golfer who carded a 128. She, like Kyley, had some great holes and some that really tested her mentally.
"The course is not set up to be easy at the State level and is designed to test the best golfers. Emporia is a long golf course and the greens were extremely fast, which gave our girls some hiccups on the scorecard.
"Laryn Thompson is a first-year golfer and did an excellent job for us all season long. She continues to get better each week. She had a 142. It was nice to see a smile on her face when she had two good holes back-to-back to end a tough round.
"It's a good feeling as the coach when you hear the girls on the way home after the season is over talking about when they can get to the course, and how this summer they want to play as much as possible to come back next fall and prove what they are capable of.
"This has been a fun group of girls I've had the opportunity to work with this season and I look forward to what next year brings for us," concluded Coach Tourtillott.
