Eagles 1-3 at Jayhawk quad
MOUND CITY -- Uniontown volleyball continued its road swing, playing in a Three Rivers League quadrangular at Jayhawk- Linn Tuesday.
The varsity Eagles won one of three matches while the junior varsity notched a victory in its only match.
The varsity squad (4-3 TRL, 9-12 overall) defeated Chetopa 25-8, 18-25, 25-20. Lindsay Nietfeld went 15 for 22 on attacks with 8 kills. Holly Shinn was 12/19 on attacks with 4 kills. Jana Wilkinson contributed 9 assists.
Uniontown lost a narrow decision to Marmaton Valley in a pair of close sets, 25-21, 25-20. Shinn finished 16/20 on attacks with 8 kills. Nietfeld went 14/18 on attacks with 4 kills. Kate Coll added 12 assists.
Against TRL leader Jayhawk-Linn, the Eagles had a tougher time of it, falling 25-12, 25-18.
Nietfeld wound up 8/9 on attacks with three kills. Haley Ruggles finished 5/5. Shinn chipped in with 5/6 on attacks with 4 kills .Wilkinson tacked on 5 assists.
"We are still struggling with little things, communication and coverage, at the top of the list," UHS coach Jackie Hall said. "We work hard in practice on those things, and we just can't seem to get them to carry over consistently to match situations. We will continue to work on improving those little things.
"We certainly have had opportunities in every match, but have just fallen short"
In junior varsity competition, the Eagles lost to Jayhawk-Linn in the first set, 25-22, but won the last two sets 25-23, 15-13.
Robyn Martin led the Eagles with 8 points.
Uniontown will face Crest and Pleasanton in Three Rivers League play Tuesday at West Bourbon Elementary School. These will be the Eagles' first home matches since Sept. 11.
