A Fort Scott man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on drug charges and was still incarcerated as of Thursday, law enforcement officials said.

Officers took 45-year-old Brent Stewart, of Fort Scott, into custody at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday near Wall and Caldwell streets on arrest warrants for various drug charges. The Bourbon County Sheriff's Office and the Fort Scott Police Department worked together on the case.

Arrest warrants were served charging Stewart with cultivating or distributing with intent opiates/opium/narcotics/stimulants, distributing certain depressants, distributing certain hallucinogens, use or possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to cultivate controlled substances, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia on the human body.

Bourbon County Sheriff Bill Martin said Thursday the case involved a joint effort between the sheriff's office and the FSPD.

"A search warrant was approved and applied for on a search for stolen property," Martin said. "That led to another search warrant for drugs."

Martin said he could not provide the types of drugs or amounts involved during an "ongoing investigation."

"I can't disclose that due to the integrity of the case," he said.

Martin did say charges have been filed and the case has been sent to the Bourbon County Attorney's Office.

"There could be additional charges filed at a later date," he said.

As of Thursday, Stewart was still being held in the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center with no bond set, according to the arrest report from the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office.
