Norma Joy Gier

Norma Joy Gier, 85, Chanute, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

Norma was born in Crawford County on Aug. 5, 1928, the daughter of Harry Otis and Emma Luvena Frear Johnston.

She married John A. Gier in Hepler on Dec. 20, 1945.

She was a devoted member of The First Christian Church in Chanute.

Early in life Norma worked as a telephone operator and a nursing assistant. Then she later concentrated on raising her family and working on their farm with her husband.

Norma is survived by two children, Harry Gier and wife, Viola, Casper, Wyo., and Sandra Adams, Chanute; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John; two infant twins, James, and Jerald; sons, John Jr., and Samuel Gier; one daughter, Mira Hosack; and her parents.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at the Walnut Cemetery.
