Track teams in top 10 in deep meet

GIRARD --Both of Fort Scott High's teams finished in the top 10 out of 22 schools at the Girard Optimist Club Invitational here Friday.

Fort Scott's girls finished eighth with Pittsburg the team champion while Tiger boys placed ninth as the top four teams, including champion Carthage, were from Missouri.

Katren Rienbolt was the only event winner for Fort Scott, taking the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5 minutes, 10.64 seconds. Freshman Callie Logue of Girard was second in 5:14.14 with Fort Scott's Cassidy Westhoff third in 5:19.81.

Rienbolt was second in the 1,600 behind Logue in 11:18.97. Logue finished in 11:16.53.

Chris Allen was Fort Scott's highest-finishing male athlete, taking second in javelin with a mark of 158 feet even. Josh Hudiburg was third at 149' 11". Drew Casey of Colgan was the winner at 170' 2".

In all, Fort Scott's girls had eight medalists in six events while the boys had seven medals in six events.

Fort Scott's teams will take part in the Chanute Relays next Friday at the Chanute Community Sports Complex.
