Paola swept the team titles at the Fort Scott Relays Friday at Frary Field but the Tigers had many strong individual performances.

Garin Sinn won boys' shot put and Katren Rienbolt won both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters in their final home meet as seniors.

Paola's girls scored 189 points, winning six golds and 31 total medals. Pittsburg scored 110 points in finishing second while Anderson County was third with 70 and Fort Scott was fourth with 68 in the eight-team meet.

Paola's boys finished on top with 174 points, 8 event wins and 30 total medals. Pittsburg was second with 125 points, followed by Labette County with 93. Fort Scott finished sixth with 42 points.

Rienbolt, the defending Class 4A State champion in both events, won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 20.07 seconds. Teammate Cassidy Westhoff was second in 5:27.46. Rebecca Wright of Paola was third in 5:36.30.

Rienbolt took the 3,200 in 11:33.3. Natalie Epper of Paola was second in 11:51.82 while Westhoff took third in 11:59.74.

Sinn's beat mark in shot put was 47 feet, 1 3/4 inches. That gave him the win over Labette County's Josh Wilson by 25 inches as he came in at 45' 0 3/4".

Starting with the rest of the girls' medalists, Fort Scott's 4x400-,eter relay team finished in second place with a time of 4:37.39. Paola was the winner in 4:14.90.

Michaela Webb finished third in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.61, Grace Willis was third in the 800 in 2:34.26 and Jillian Lattimer claimed third in javelin at 109' 1".

Lattimer also picked up a fifth-place medal after going 35' 2 3/4" in shot put. The 4x100-meter relay was fifth in 53.30 seconds. Webb finished fifth in the 200 meters in 28.58. And Keaira Meadows was fifth in the 100 meters in 12.97.

Chris Allen finished in second place boys' javelin with a throw of 168' 8 1/2" while Josh Hudiburg was fifth at 160' 10 1/2" and Sinn was fifth at 153 10 1/2". The winner was Andrew Henn of Paola, the defending Class 4A State champ in this event, at 185' 8".

A steady south wind made javelin especially tricky as the athletes had to throw into the wind. Line-drive throws fared batter than those which went high as those got caught in the wind and landed well short of a hoped-for mark or drifted out of bounds.

Vince Tome tied for second in the 100-meter dash, which was held going south-to-north so athletes wouldn't have to run into the wind, in 11.24 seconds.

Zach Wheeler finished in third place in the 800-meter eun with a time of 2:11 in a very competitive race. Luke Wilson of Paola won in 2:08.20, holding off Pittsburg's Riley Cunningham, who clocked in at 2:08.24.

Wyatt Stark finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 11:38.14. Tome took sixth in the 200 meters in 23.83.

Fort Scott will host a junior varsity meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frary Field. Friday, the varsity Tigers travel to Girard for the Optimist Club Invitational, one of the larger track and field meets in Southeast Kansas. That meet also begins at 3:30 p.m.
