Westhoff wins two events at Paola

PAOLA -- Fort Scott High School did not bring a full contingent here Thursday for the Paola Invitational as some individuals were held out so they could compete in the Pittsburg State Relays on Friday.

Cassidy Westhoff claimed two distance wins for Tiger girls as she took the 1,600 in a time of 5 minutes, 35.12 seconds, which was about 7 seconds better than the runner-up, and the 3,200 in 11:52.41, which won by around eight seconds.

Michaela Webb took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 29.29 seconds. Grace Willis was fourth in the 800 in 2:41.29. The 4x100-meter relay team took fifth in 55.37. And Keaira Meadows finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.44.

Fort Scott girls finished with 35 points, which placed sixth out of nine. Paola, which won 34 medals, scored 223 points.

Only two boys medaled and both finished in sixth place. Vince Tome ran the 100-meter dash in 11.31 and Zach Wheeler turned in a time of 2:14.21 in the 800.

The Tigers will go to Coffeyville on Tuesday to compete in the Independence Relays. They have been moved this season because Indy's home field is undergoing improvements.

Only events in which Fort Scott medaled are shown, the winner of which is shown, regardless of school. If the Fort Scott athlete won the event, the second-place mark is shown, regardless of school, for comparison.
