Shirley Ann Hickman, 78, of Pittsburg, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, Kan.

She was born May 11, 1935 at Girard, Kan., the daughter of Vern and Olive (Ensch) Thomas. She graduated from St. Mary's High School.

On June 5, 1954, she married Herbert H. Hickman at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, Kan. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Hickman worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator and then as a homemaker.

Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Alter Society.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Cynthia A. Roberts and her husband Dale of Fort Scott, Kan., and Vicki L. Wilbert and her husband Mike of Pittsburg, Kan.; two brothers, Tom Thomas and his wife Ann of Pittsburg, Kan., and Jim Thomas of Maryland; four grandchildren Brett Roberts of Fort Scott, Kan., Danielle Roberts of Fort Scott, Kan., Brian Wilbert and his wife Tara of Pittsburg, Kan., and Julie Wilbert of Kansas City, Kan.; two nephews, Tom Thomas of Pittsburg, Kan., and Steve Thomas of Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Scott Thomas Hickman.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, Kan., with Father Chad Arnold as celebrant. Inurnment will be at a later date in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan. The parish rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society, Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund, and/or Alzheimer's Association.
