Tiger JV sweeps in opener

Fort Scott High School's junior varsity softball team got a head start on the season when it swept Spring Hill, 22-5 and 13-7, at Fisher Park South Monday afternoon.

The Tigers had 20 hits in the opener, which was stopped after 3 innings. Hannah Coombs was 3 for 4, including a triple and a grand slam home run. She drove in 6 runs in the game.

Kassidi Soltren and Jaden Hymer also had 3 hits each for Fort Scott. Lindsey McNeil, Codee Budd and Madi Grado had 2 each. Both of McNeil's hits were doubles

McNeil and Grado each scored 3 runs, Coombs, Soltren, Budd, Hymer, Shayla Button and Caitlyn Killion each scored 2.

Hymer drove in 4 runs, Button 3, and Soltren and Budd 2 each. Button also had 2 stolen bases.

McNeil and Lewis were the pitchers. Lewis allowed just one hit in one inning. Lewis allowed 4 earned runs on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4 in the other 2 innings.

Coombs, McNeil and Soltren each had 3 hits in the second game and Hymer, Lewis, Ashley Cook and Mary Schick each had 2. McNeil hit two triples.

Coombs and McNeil each scored 3 runs while Soltren scored twice. McNeil and Soltren drove in 2 runs each.

Killion pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks while striking out 3. Lewis allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 7 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts in 2 innings.

The JV Tigers will play Girard in a doubleheader that begins at 4:30 Thursday at Fisher Park South.
