Erma Arlene Clayton, 98, of Fort Scott, passed away Thursday morning March 27, 2014 at the Medicalodge in Fort Scott. She was born in Mapleton, Kan., March 11, 1916 the daughter of Holly and Ella (Blodgett) Dennis. She married Ellsworth Clayton Dec. 25, 1934 in Mapleton, Kan., and they were married for 30 years.

Erma was born and raised in Mapleton, Kan., and was a member of the RLDS Church and Eastern Star. She was a hairdresser in Fort Scott for 38 years, retiring in 1995.

Erma is survived by her children, Gary Clayton and his wife Juanita of Cassville, Mo., and Beth McCain of Rosenberg, Texas; a brother, Bobby Dennis of Dallas, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son named Jackie; two brothers, Laverne "Kid" Dennis, Dave Dennis; two sisters, Hazel Stoughton and Fern Shipley, and a son-in-law, Kenny McCain.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with a visitation immediately following the services.
