Fort Scott Fire Department firefighters were able to quickly quell a house fire Wednesday afternoon in the 400 block of Margrave Street.

Two FSFD trucks and about seven personnel responded about noon Wednesday to a structure fire at 408 Margrave St. The residents of the home reported the fire, which broke out in a bedroom in the northwest corner of the house, FSFD Chief Paul Ballou said.

Ballou said he is not sure of the cause of the fire, as some of his firefighters were still examining the damage Wednesday afternoon when he left the scene. Ballou said it only took firefighters a little more than an hour to extinguish the fire.

"There was not a lot of fire damage. It had some smoke damage," he said. "It was one of those fortunate ones that happened to come up at a good time of the day when we were right there and got over there pretty quick."

Ballou said no injuries were reported from the fire. A Mercy EMS unit responded but "nobody was treated," he said.

Ballou said he did not have an estimate of damage caused by the fire.
