Darla Dawn Gross, age 73, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at her home following a cancer illness. She was born Sept. 3, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Orville Walter Ray and May 
Belle Small Ray. She married Glenn Gross on Sept. 18, 1965, in Jellico, Tenn. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2012. Darla had worked for Resource Independent Living where she provided in-home care for the elderly.

Survivors include a daughter, Christian Beerbower of Fort Scott; a son, Steven Ray, Denver, Colo.; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Grant Ray, Midway, Ohio and Terry Ray, Letcher, S.D. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Orville Ray, Jr., Walter Ray and Dennis Ray; and two sisters, Shirley Slone and Linda Bryant.

At Darla's request, her body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center; no services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
