Northeast sweeps Eagles

ARMA --Northeast swept Uniontown here Friday night in a Three Rivers League doubleheader. Viking girls took a 60-54 victory while Northeast boys' claimed an 84-57 verdict.

These were the final league games of the season for Uniontown, which will finish regular-season play with home games against Southern Coffey County Tuesday night.

Eagle girls (5-4 TRL, 9-10 overall) led 27-24 at the half. But Northeast (7-1, 13-6) outscored Uniontown 36-27 in the second half.

Jessica Farra led Uniontown with 15 points followed by Shalina Harper with 14 and Emily Shinn with 12. Mandie Ridge grabbed 12 rebounds.

Eagle boys (4-5, 8-11) trailed 17-9 after one but outscored Northeast 25-22 in the second.

The Vikings (7-1, 14-5), who have posted at least 70 points six other times this season, took the lead for good with a 30-11 third-quarter advantage.

"Northeast is a very good team who runs the court very well," Eagle head coach Jeremy Neville said. "It was nice to see our guys put some things together and make a big run in the second quarter. We are showing signs of really good basketball. Consistency and sustaining that high level of play has been a challenge for us all season."

Joseph Duffey led Uniontown with 19 points while David Bradbury added 11.

"Joseph Duffey had a productive night offensively," Neville said. "David Bradbury had his best game of the season and was the spark plug for us in that second quarter."

Northeast also won the junior varsity girls' game, 25-24. Holly Shinn led the Eagles with 10 points.
