FSHS baseball team heading to spring training

The Fort Scott High School Tiger Baseball team is planning a trip to Florida over Spring Break. Members of the Tiger baseball team will be attending Washington Nationals spring training games, the current team of former FSHS baseball star and alum Adam LaRoche. The team is planning on staying in Space Coast, Fla., for four days as well as conducting daily practices and other team building activities.

"This is an awesome opportunity for our kids to be around Major League (Baseball) players and see them go about their business and play," Josh Regan, FSHS head coach, said.

In addition, the team is planning several fundraisers to assist players in paying for the trip. On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Tiger baseball will host a homemade pizza dinner in the high school commons area during the home basketball games against Pittsburg. For $5, supporters will get two large homemade slices of pizza, a desert and a drink. Tickets for the meal can be purchased from any Tiger baseball player, or by contacting Regan by email at jregan@usd234.org or by office phone at (620) 223-0600.

"The fundraisers are to help make this trip affordable for our players," Regan said.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, Tiger baseball will be conducting a community-wide "Scrap Metal Drive." Residents who would like to donate or get rid of spare scrap metal, can contact Regan (via email or phone). Players from the team will come by that morning to pick up the scrap metal. Scrap metal can also be dropped off at Stoughton Inc. Plumbing Electrical Heating & Air, located at 905 S Wilson St. Those who wish to drop scrap metal off in advance should call (620) 223-3200.

"It was awesome. I gave them (my players) a lot of this (fundraiser) information," Regan said during Monday's USD 234 Board of Education meeting. "I gave them the fundraisers we are going to do. I laid out the sign up sheets and all of them signed up for every single one. When we all do things for them (the players) they really appreciate it. They've been extremely grateful through this whole process. I think this is a great group, and an incredible opportunity for this group."
