Georgia Irene Foster

Georgia Irene Foster, 96, formerly of Fort Scott and Topeka, passed away early Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 2013 at the Covenant Village of Colorado nursing facility in Westminster, Colo. She was born April 7, 1917 in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of Homer and Myrtle Dee (Lucas) Logan. She married Robert Dell Foster in Fort Scott on June 20, 1943. He preceded her in death June 20, 1955.

Georgia grew up in Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Junior College. Upon graduation from junior college, she moved to Topeka where she worked as a secretary in several state agencies prior to her employment by the Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper in 1953 where she was editor of the Modern Living section of the paper, retiring in 1982. After retirement she remained in Topeka where she pursued her interest in gardening and genealogy, volunteering at the Kansas Genealogy Society Library for a number of years. In 2003 she moved to Westminster, Colo. to be near family members.

Survivors include her two nieces, Jacklyn Bryan and her husband Fred of Tabernash, Colo., and Charlotte Williams and her husband, Marvin of Fort Scott, Kan.; and her nephew John Matthews and his wife Luisa of Cape Coral, Fla.; five grand nieces and nephews, and eight great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Maxine Matthews.

Following cremation, interment will take place at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701. Condolences may be emailed to expressions@konantz-cheney.com.
