DeLores Jane (Roach) Erwin, 72, Uniontown, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
DeLores was born in Texhoma, Oklahoma on July 29, 1941, the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Stevens) Roach. She attended Texhoma Public Schools. She received a degree in education from Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Later DeLores received a Master's degree in special education from Pittsburg State University.
DeLores married Dean Erwin on May 25, 1968, in Kansas City. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage and many activities together. He survives. As a young woman DeLores auditioned for and was accepted into the Metropolitan Opera Company. DeLores began her 43 year career in education as a music teacher and loved putting on performances. Along the way she enjoyed singing, acting and being involved in the community theater. Later in her career, her passion shifted from music to special education. DeLores positively touched and impacted the lives of countless numbers of people.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Erwin, Uniontown; children; David and Tami Erwin, Salem, Nebraska, Stephanie and Jason Smith, Topeka; grandchildren, Mitch, Amanda, Dallas and Katharine. She is also survived by her brother, Don and LaQuita Roach, sister-in-law, Ginger Roach, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
DeLores' memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Community Christian Church in Fort Scott. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Texhoma Cemetery in Texhoma, Texas.
