James Joseph Canaday
James Joseph Canaday, age 68, a resident of Fort Scott, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at the Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. He was born January 10, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Omar Ira Canaday and Florettia Mae Riley Canaday. In his earlier years, Jim worked for the Mo-Ark Egg Company in Neosho, Mo., and also for the U.S. Forestry Department. He then worked for the O'Bryan Ranch and later did farm work for both Frank Hereford and Jerry Smith. In addition to working on the farm, Jim enjoyed drawing and woodworking and spending time with his pets.
Survivors include four brothers, Roy Gene Canaday, Reeds, Mo., Lawrence Clyde Canaday, Harrisonville, Mo., Donald Dale Canaday, Reeds, Mo., and Danny Kay Canaday, Protection, Kan.; and five sisters, Alice Jane Canaday, Reeds Springs, Mo., Betty Ann Drake, Washington state, Dora Sue Clark, Sheldon, Mo., Dorothy Brown, Savannah, Ga., and Helen Rebecca Pryor, Linn Valley, Kan. Also surviving is his friend and caregiver, Becky Hereford Canaday, of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Grace Joan Waessner and Donna Viola Canaday.
Rev. Paul Rooks will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hepler Cemetery.
