Fred D. Pitts, 86, of Concordia, Mo., formerly of Sweet Springs, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.

Born Aug. 8, 1927 in Hermitage, Mo., he was the son of the late Harry Alexander Pitts and Alpha Helen Bandel Pitts. Fred was raised on a farm in Hermitage and was a graduate of Hermitage High School. On March 12, 1947, he married Peggy Ann King who survives of the home. He was an electrician for many years and was a member of IBEW Local 124. Fred served his community as a member of the First Christian Church, the Sweet Springs Volunteer Fire Department, The Order of the Eastern Star, and a 60-year member of Barbee Lodge No. 217.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Janice Lindemann and husband Wayne of Concordia, George D. Pitts and wife Edie of Peculiar, Mo., and Carol J. Hill and husband John of Fort Scott Kan.; six grandchildren: Elisa Oetting and husband Joel, Terisa McGinnis and husband Christopher, Laura Ashby and husband Bobby, Meredith Hill, Jason Caldwell and wife Jennie, and Edward Caldwell and wife Jourdan; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, William L. Pitts of Pittsville, Mo..; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Herbert Pitts and two sisters, Josephine Gambill and Geraldine Coon.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at First Christian Church in sweet Springs with Pastor Jack Thomas and William W Harlow officiating.
