Seniors to lead Uniontown golfers
Uniontown girls' golf coach Jason Tourtillott will field a senior-led team this year. The Eagles have four seniors on their seven-member squad.
Tourtillott, who is in his fifth year as the golf coach at the school, said his team's hopes will rely on those veterans.
"I think if our seniors can put together a good season, we have the potential to get our team to the state tournament," he said. "We haven't played a varsity meet yet so it's tough to say how much we have improved but from watching the girls at practice, we're getting off the tee box better and our short game seems a lot better."
Heading up this year's contingent is senior Torrie Hathaway, who qualified for the Class 3-2-1A State Tournament last year as an individual.
In addition to Hathaway, seniors include Jordan Mason, Haven Bradbury, and Anna Oberle. They are joined by sophomore Draven George and freshmen Kaylynn Crystal and KaitLynn Sampson.
Tourtillott said he expects another solid year of competition.
"We play most of the schools in the (Southeast Kansas League) so all the tournaments are competitive," he said. "Being a smaller school, our goal is to try to put four respectable rounds together on the same day and hope it's good enough to place."
