Margaret Elizabeth Neden

Margaret Elizabeth Neden, age 83, a former resident of Fort Scott, and more recently of Forsyth, Mo., died early Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at her home following a cancer illness. She was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Clarence Eugene Cowen and Helen Jane Carrier Cowen. Margaret received her education from Kansas City College and Bible School in Overland Park, Kan. Margaret married Wayne Neden on May 23, 1950 on the KCCBS campus. Margaret taught both English and social science courses at Fort Scott Christian Heights for 22 years. In addition to teaching at Christian Heights, Margaret also drove a school bus for the Fort Scott School District. While in Fort Scott, Margaret faithfully attended the Parkway Church of God (Holiness). Margaret and Wayne moved to Forsyth, Mo., 11 years ago where they had attended the Tri-Lakes Church in Branson, Mo. Since their move, Margaret had read her Bible completely through 14 times.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne, of the home; four sons, Michael Neden and wife, Karren, Carthage, Mo., Kerry Neden and wife, Machale, Brenham, Texas, Terry Neden and wife, Beverly, Richardson, Texas, and Joe Neden, Fort Scott, Kan.; her daughter, Deborah Baumgartner and husband, Dave, Castle Rock, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth Cowen and wife, Mary, Forsyth, Mo., and Albert Cowen and wife, Kathy, Houston, Texas, and three sisters, Eleanor Maddox and husband, Jeff, Edmond, Okla., Juanita Chavez and husband, Gene, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Carolyn Thomas and husband, Dan, Overland Park, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.

Rev. Mark Stetler will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the Parkway Church of God (Holiness) 1111 State Ave., Fort Scott, Kan. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
