Earnest M. Lord
Earnest M. Lord, age 88, of Bronson, Kan., passed away on Aug. 31, 2013, at his home. He went to join his wife of 62 years.
He was born Nov. 27, 1924 near Avard, Okla., the son of Ralph Earnest and Mary Donetta (McKinley) Lord. Earnest grew up in Woods County, Okla., but in 1942, his family moved to Oceanside, Calif., and graduated high school there.
Earnest served during WWII in the United States Navy, he was stationed in the Philippine Islands along with his brothers, Carl, Francis, and brother-in-law, Richard Wilson. In 1946, he was discharged and returned to Woods County, Okla.
He married Hazel Mae Bergen on April 1, 1950 at Waynoka, Okla. Their first home was near Avard, Okla., where they moved in a section home to live in. He worked for the railroad, a fuel inspector for the State of Oklahoma, along with raising turkeys. In 1964, a tornado hit their farm and killed most of the turkeys. They sold the farm in Oklahoma and moved to a farm near Bronson, Kan., where they lived the rest of their life. Earnest and Hazel raised cattle and farmed after moving to Kansas. To their union, five children were born, Vicki Annette, Ernest Mandiville (Corky), Frank McKinley, Mary Jalene, and Marty Ray.
Earnest was a member of Young Democrats of Oklahoma, Odd Fellow Lodge, and the Fort Scott VFW Post 1165.
Earnest liked to camp and seine for fish. His favorite pastime was playing cards and shuffleboard. He taught his children that being a good neighbor and hard work was a must. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. His laughter will be in each of our hearts.
Earnest was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Hazel; two sons, Corky Lord and Marty Lord; one son-in-law, Kenneth Wood; one grandson, Austin Ryan Lord; two brothers, Francis Oren Lord and Carl McKinley Lord; and one sister, Hazel Neoma Wilson.
He is survived by one son, Frank Lord and wife Lucille of Uniontown, Kan.; two daughters, Vicki Wood of Humboldt, Kan.; Mary Ridge and husband Tom of Xenia, Kan.; three grandsons, Jared Lord and wife Heather; Heath Lord ad wife Carrie; and Ty Lord; all of Uniontown, Kan.; five granddaughters, Mindy McCall and husband Travis of Humboldt, Kan.; Ashley Lord of St. Louis, Mo.; Shelby Brown and husband Ryan of Pleasanton, Kan.; Rayma Ridge of Fort Scott, Kan.; Mandie Ridge of Xenia, Kan.; three great grandsons, Derrick McCall of Lawrence, Kan.; Tyler and Lane Lord of Moran, Kan.; five great granddaughters, Hannah, Makaylah and Aricah McCall of Humboldt; Crystal and McKenna Lord of Uniontown, Kan.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran, Kan. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, at the funeral home in Moran.
