Key dates prior to fall practice

Thursday, August 1, 2013

A list of important dates has been released by Fort Scott High School that athletes at both the high school and those interested in Fort Scott Middle School's revived interscholastic sports should keep in mind.

On August 7, Mercy Hospital will offer physical exams for $10. All who are thinking of going out for high school or FSMS interscholastic are urged to take advantage of this opportunity. Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) rules, which also apply to middle-school interscholastics, require a physical on file before an athlete can begin participating in any athletics. FSMS students who wish to participate in the intramural program are not required to have a physical on file but can elect to have one at their option.

Fall sports parents meetings for Fort Scott High football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, girls tennis and girls golf will be held at 6 p.m. August 13 at the high school.

Impact concussion pre-assessments will be held at FSHS for football players in grades 9-12 on August 13 and 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. This is part of an initiative to reduce injuries.

According to the KSHSAA website, "Based on Kansas law..., any student participating in athletics or spirit must have on file with the school a Concussion and Head Injury Information Release Form signed by both a parent/guardian and the student. This form must be on file before the student participates in their first practice of the school year."

The first day of fall sports practices will be August 19, per KSHSAA regulations, for both FSHS and the FSMS interscholastic programs.
