BNSF truck catches fire on the tracks

If local law enforcement officials are on track with their synopsis of an afternoon fire on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks near Garland, it is likely those tracks will be shut down for a while.
On Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m., emergency personnel from various area agencies responded to a call for a vehicle fire on the tracks, about 100 yards north of 260th Street and Arrowhead Road.
Officials on the scene said a BNSF maintenance truck which caught fire had to be towed about 100 yards toward pumper trucks before firefighters could begin to extinguish the blaze. During that time, numerous railroad ties in the two path also caught fire. Those railroad ties continued to smolder and occasionally flamed well after the truck fire had been extinguished.
Among those responding to the call were the Crawford County District No. 2 Fire Department, Arma, Scott Township Fire Department, the Garland Rural Fire Department, the Crawford County Sheriffs Department and the Bourbon County Sheriff's Department. Firefighters remained on the scene until about 7 p.m.
Law enforcement officials on the scene suspect the truck overheated, causing the fire, but an official cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Andy Williams, BNSF Director of Public Affairs for Illinois, Kansas, MIssouri and Nebraska could not be reached for comment on Monday and no official report was available from Garland Fire Department as of press time.
