Shirley White is not letting her cancer diagnosis stop her from living her life.

The Fort Scott resident, who was diagnosed last fall with aggressive non-Hodgkins Type B lymphoma, plans to be involved with the Bourbon County Relay for Life event Friday night and Saturday morning at the Fort Scott Community College walking trail.

White said she could choose to have a negative attitude and outlook toward the situation, but she's not doing that.

"It doesn't pay to be mad or upset; it doesn't help anything," she said. "And it's easier to smile than it is to cry."
