Miller, Dixon, Robinson will represent Uniontown at State track

YATES CENTER -- Nine Uniontown athletes earned medals at the Yates Center Class 2A Regional Meet here Friday. Three of those medalists qualified for this weekend's State Track and Field Meet in Wichita.

The top six finishers in each event won medals. The top four finishers qualified for State.

The State qualifiers are Trenton Miller, Abby Dixon and Da'Nisha Robinson. Miller won boys' discus with an effort of 132 feet, 5 inches. Zak Hueston earned a medal, finished sixth at 119' 8". Matt Jones of Melvern-Marais des Cygnes Valley was the runner-up at 138' 1".

Dixon won girls' javelin with a mark of 100' 8", winning by nearly 8 feet over runner-up Spencer of Kansas City Christian (94' 11").

Dixon, a senior, was also third in discus at 97' 1". Dixon was a State qualifier in this event last season. She finished in 13th place.

Robinson took shot put at 35' 11 1/2", over 2 1/2 feet better than the runner-up, Foiles of Lyndon (33' 4"). She was a State qualifier in this event last season, finishing 15th.

Amelia Brown also medaled in javelin but her sixth-place distance was not listed.

John Reed finished in fifth place in the boys' 100-meter final, turning in an 11.66. Austin Mettling of Central-Burden was the winner in 10.93.

Reed was on Uniontown's medalist 4x100-meter relay team with Cole Schafer, Gavin Miller and Josh Wisely. They turned in a time of 47.22 seconds to place fifth. Lyndon won in 45.08.

Uniontown placed ninth in girls' team standings and tied for 14th in boys' with Leavenworth Immaculata and Oskaloosa. Howard-West Elk was the girls' team champion. Lyndon won the boys' title.

Class 2A competition at State begins at 8 a.m. Friday morning. A schedule for Uniontown athletes can be seen in the Sports Calendar.

Only events in which Uniontown athletes medaled are shown. The winner of each event is listed, regardless of school. If a Uniontown athlete won the event, the runner-up is shown, regardless of school, for comparison.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the State Meet. The top six finishers earned medals.

Not all girls' medalists were provided to the media.
