Iola downs Tigers for State berth

GARNETT -- Iola defeated Fort Scott High, 17-6, in the final of the Anderson County Class 4A Regional Baseball Tournament here Thursday night and will move on to the Class 4A State Tournament next week.

The Mustangs advance to State with an 18-0 record. The Tigers' season came to an end with a 15-4 mark.

Iola defeated fourth-seeded Paola, 7-3, in the semifinals to begin the day's action here. Fort Scott got past Ottawa in the second semifinal by a score of 8-5.

Coffeyville (12-7) will represent the Southeast Kansas League at the State Tournament. The Golden Tornado stunned previously undefeated Frontenac -- which was also ranked No. 1 in Class 4A by the Kansas Baseball Coaches Association -- by a 4-3 score in the final of the Labette County Regional on Wednesday.
