Jack W. Hembree
Jack W. Hembree, 77, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born July 22, 1935, in Hiattville, Kan., the son of Luther and Faye Williamson Hembree. He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1953. He married Joan Tredway on March 21, 1955, in Fort Scott. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past March. Jack was a certified master electrician. He formed Hembree Electric in 1982, working until he retired in 2006. He enjoyed meeting with the "donut gang," spending time at the lake, fishing, car races and Royals baseball; as well as playing cards and dominoes with friends and grandchildren. Jack was a member of Rising Sun Lodge #8 and would have received his 50-year pin in June. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife Joan of the home; two sons, Greg Hembree, Overland Park, Kan., and Mike Hembree and wife Mary, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Nancy Stewart and husband Eddie, Olathe, Kan.; one brother, Luke Hembree and wife Peggy, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Ally, Wes, Joel, Lauren, and Benton Hembree; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hembree; two brothers, Melvin and Robert Hembree; a sister, Gertrude Cook; and his parents.
Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the First Christian Church. Masonic Rites will also be conducted. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
