Fort Scott's Katren Rienbolt leads a pack of runners into the first turn of the 1.600-meter run at Frary Field Friday afternoon. By the second lap, Rienbolt had already put significant distance between herself and the rest of the runners and went on to win by nearly 8 seconds. Later, she won the 3,200 meters by over 18 seconds. (Scott Nuzum/Tribune)

Paola's boys and girls teams swept the Fort Scott Relays at Frary Field Friday while Fort Scott High's girls finished fourth out of the eight teams here. Tiger boys placed seventh.

Fort Scott's girls won three individual events in finishing with 61 points, two behind third-place Anderson County. The Tigers lost points that would have put them third as senior distance runner Paige Denton had to be withheld from the meet due to a muscle injury in her leg.

Katren Rienbolt won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, both in dominant fashion. She took the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 28.47 seconds as she began to pull away from the pack on the backstretch of the first lap. Runner-up Kaylee Krull of Parsons was second in 5:37.30.

Rienbolt claimed the 3,200 even more convincingly, clocking in at 11:46.30. By the end of the race, she had lapped the runners who finished fifth and sixth. Krull was second in 12:04.25, coming just a couple of hundred yards short of lapping a runner herself.

Jillian Lattimer won javelin by over 16 feet as she managed to go 109 feet, 4 inches on a day where a big mark was hard to achieve for whatever reason. Pittsburg's Katie Phalen was the runner-up at 93 feet even and two of the six medalists didn't clear 90 feet.

Cassidy Westhoff won Fort Scott's lone second-place medal as she finished with a 52.29 time in the 300-meter hurdles. Anderson County's Alexandra Barbarino was the winner in 47.19.

Keaira Meadows was the Tigers' only third-place finisher as she ran the 100 meters in 12.83 seconds. Devin Cosper of Coffeyville won it in 12.21.

Lattimer took fourth in shot put at 36' 9". Kelsey Slawson of Paola was the winner at 43' 2". Brianne Lawrence was fourth in discus at 100' 7" as Slawson also won that at 131' 7", almost 10 feet better than the runner-up.

Fort Scott's 4x400-meter relay team was fourth in 4:34.49. Paola was the winner in 4:21.30.

The Tiger 4x100 relay team was fifth in 53.55 seconds. Coffeyville won that event in 50.11.

Grace Willis took fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:39.80. Lizzy Willis of Pittsburg won with a time of 2:32.28.

Westhoff finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.48. Paola's Page Getz was the winner in 16.73.

Paola won seven events and 29 total medals as the Panthers scored 146 points. Pittsburg was second with 120 points. The Purple Dragons won three events and 20 medals. Fort Scott had a total of 11 medals.

Paola's boys won a much closer battle for the boys' title with Labette County. The Panthers finished with 119 points to 115 for LCHS. Paola won 21 medals and six events. The Grizzlies won 20 medals and four events.

Tiger boys scored 24 points, finishing three ahead of last-place Parsons. They won eight medals, the highest being a pair of thirds.

Chris Allen had one of those thirds as he managed a distance of 162' 4" in javelin. Andrew Henn of Paola was second at 176' 2" and Ty Gatton of Labette County was second at 168' 11". No other competitor managed to reach 150 feet.

Garin Sinn was third in shot put with a mark of 45 feet even. Gershom Avalos of Pittsburg was the winner at 49' 8 1/2". His teammate, Chris Huyett, was second at 47' 8".

Fort Scott's 4x800-meter relay team finished fourth in 9:08.62. Paola won in 8:58.14.

Weston Woodring won two fifth-place medals. His 800-meter time was 2:14.90. Abe Russell of Parsons took first in 2:05.59. Woodring was also fifth in high jump, clearing 5' 8". Mason McDowell of Paola cleared 6' 2" on his way to winning that event.

Austin Sather was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.44. Jon Kelly of Labette County won it in 52.35.

Fort Scott's 4x100 relay team placed sixth in 48.03 seconds while Coffeyville won the race in 43.23.

Tyler Endicott rounds out Tiger results with his 9' 6" in pole vault that was good for sixth place. Nevada's Stefan Ogle won it by clearing 13' 6".

Fort Scott will host a junior varsity meet at Frary Field Tuesday, which begins at 3:30 p.m. The varsity squad will make its annual trip to Girard Friday for the one of the larger meets in Southeast Kansas.
