Floyd Dewayne Camp

Floyd Dewayne Camp, age 61, resident of Independence, Mo., died Monday April 15, 2013, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. He was born Nov. 9, 1951, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Floyd Daniel Camp and Betty Jeanette Wiggans Camp. He was a union carpenter with the Local Carpenters Union Chapter No. 1329 until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed Karaoke (especially Elvis songs), wood working, fishing and camping. His passion for stock car racing lasted long after his driving days. He served as president of his Carpenter's Union for nine years.

Survivors include his wife Ruth of the home; son Gary Dewayne Camp, Fort Scott; step-son Jeremiah Johnson, Independence, Mo.; step-daughters Cindy Yardley and Michelle Grammer, both of Independence, Mo.; one brother, David Camp, Fort Scott; two step-brothers, Chuck Gruver, Cummings, Kan., and Darrell Parker, Fort Scott; sister Ruth Elsworth, Cherryvale, Kan.; and step-sisters Cheryl Thrasher, Easton, Kan., and Jean Russell, Fort Scott. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lauren Camp, Erin Camp, Trent Yardley, Hannah Yardley, Shannon Stewart, Alex Grammer and Colby Grammer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Dale Camp; a step-sister Elizabeth Russell; his parents; and a stepmother, Doris Hillman Camp.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel.
