Jack H. Schwatken
Jack Henry Schwatken, age 84, Webb City, Mo., passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jack was born March 4, 1928 in Fort Scott, Kansas, son of the late Orville Leo Schwatken and Blanche Irene Simpson Schwatken. He graduated from Fort Scott High School, and attended Fort Scott Community College. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Western Insurance in Fort Scott for over 22 years, retiring as a Claims Manager. He later assisted in custom built homes, but farming was his passion. He was also superintendent with the Webb City Parks, and was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church. His biggest love though, was for his family, from wife to grandchildren. He devoted much of life to taking care of his family, and loving them unconditionally.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schwatken whom he married on September 25, 1949 in Fort Scott; children, Linda Schwatken of Webb City, and Ronald Schwatken and wife Susan of Valley Center, Kan.; three grandchildren, Ryan Schwatken of Pittsburg, Kan., Adam Schwatken and wife Kelly of Olathe, Kan., and Nicole Kidd and husband Tony of Augusta, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Jack, NonaJane, Madison, and Molly.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott with Pastor B.A. Austin officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Park Plaza Christian Church Building Fund.
