Announcements from Thu. Chamber Coffee

Members of the weekly Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee gave a "Dollar for Dolly" at the Thursday morning gathering, this week hosted by Bartelsmeyer Jewelry. Announcements of events in the community can be made, with proceeds helping fund Dolly the Trolley.

The following announcements were made:

* Kale Nelson- "The Save our Seniors Oreo truffles are still for sale, $9 per dozen, and you can buy one-half dozen," he said.

* Don Miller- "Fort Scott Community College travel program has over 50 going to Hawaii in September, with costs ranging from $3,300 to $2,900 per person." He indicated there is room for a few more people.

* Otis Thomas introduced Joe Chenoweth, of Harrisonville, Mo., an area developer for Young Life. "Young Life is just starting out in Fort Scott, we need to raise $11,000 and we are one-half there already," Thomas said. Chenoweth explained that YL is "not committed to any church. We step into their world. Leaders hang out at the Sonic or ballgames. A committee that's formed is going to FSCC Christians on Campus tonight to recruit leaders there," Chenoweth said.

* Lynnette Emmerson announced the Alzheimer Association's Walk To End Alzheimer's fundraiser will take place next Thursday, Valentine's Day. "You get a three balloon bouquet, a bag of candy and a stuffed animal for $10, including school fees." This goes toward Fort Scott Manor's Walk to End Alzheimer's Team. * Jerry Witt from Cheney-Witt Funeral Chapel announced that in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the chapel, "We are bringing a number one show in Branson, March 16, at Memorial Hall. There are reserved seats, but tickets are free. February 15 the tickets will be released at the Chamber, Country Cupboard and the funeral home. This is our way of thanking the community. It's the Rankin Brothers."

* Kevin "Skitch" Allen thanked everyone for the support of the recent Dancing With Our Stars event, and said he especially enjoyed the people from the nursing home coming to watch the event.

* Fort Scott Mayor Jim Adams commended Jon Garrison, finance director for the city, for the smooth transition to his new position; and also Interim Police Chief Travis Shelton for his work in reorganizing the department.

* Pastor Kenton Van announced that there will be a 'Blessing of the Bikes" service 12:30 p.m. April 21 at First United Methodist Church.

* Deb Madison, of Medicalodges, announced that the facility will be sponsoring a chili feed on Feb. 15 in support of the Bourbon County General Transportation need. All proceeds will go to help the entity to keep providing bus and van transportation for area residents. Call (620) 223-0210, by 4:30 p.m., Feb. 13, to have the chili delivered.

FSACC Executive Director Lindsay Madison said that Fort Scott Rotary has agreed to match donations with the money raised.

*Dave Conrad announced he is running for a position on the Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees, and also announced that the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry events start next Friday, and will take place the next six Fridays through Lent.

* Madison reminded members that there will be a candidates forum at 6 p.m., March 5, at the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center at FSCC.

* She also noted that the annual chamber dinner is March 7 at Liberty Theatre.

* Chamber announcer for the day, J. D. Handly, noted that there is an upcoming small business development class and that the Red Cross bloodmobile is Feb. 7-8.
