Uniontown Ruritan meets

Uniontown Ruritan Club held its monthly meeting at the Uniontown United Methodist Church annex.

Vice President Lawrence "Bugs" George called the meeting to order. Dale Jackson led the club in singing "America." Ken Holt gave the invocation. Club members thanked the Methodist ladies for the delicious meal with applause.

Kevin Gleason announced FFA fruit would arrive on Dec. 15.

Secretary Raymond "Skeet" George called the roll with 10 members present.

Treasurer Chad Holt gave the treasurer's report.

Dale Jackson moved the treasurer's report be approved. Ed Hartman seconded and the motion carried.

Officers for 2013 were nominated as follows: President Lawrence George, Vice President Randy Rockhold, Treasurer Chad Holt, Secretary Skeet George and First-Year Director Kevin Gleason.

Kevin Gleason moved we cast a unanimous ballot for the nominated officers. Ken Holt seconded and the motion carried.

Skeet George reported that 80 people attended the Mid-America District Ruritan Convention. He made the meal a fundraiser for the club by overseeing and furnishing the food for the meal, except for the chicken which was purchased from Woods Supermarket.

Carol, Mary Ellen and Bernadette George helped with the food also and donated cakes.

Ben and Luke George assisted by serving beverages. Lawrence George also helped considerably. The convention was held in the Uniontown High School commons area and adjacent classrooms.

Auctioneer Mary Read volunteered his time to assist by auctioning off items at the meeting as a fundraiser for the scholarship foundation. Items were furnished by clubs.

Zone Governor Jimmy Bolinger and his wife, Charli, were in charge of the hospitality room to welcome attendees.

Skeet was elected Lieutenant Governor and also reported he expected Uniontown to be the site selected for the 2013 Mid-America Convention next November. Skeet was presented with the prestigious Tom Downing award.
