Kiwanis Pioneer Chili Feed set

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

The 24th annual Kiwanis Pioneer Chili Feed is set for 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Scottish Rite Temple, 110 S. Main St.

The pioneers will be serving chili and all the "fixins," hot dogs, drinks and a variety of desserts. Children under age 5 may eat free; all other tickets are $5.

Advance tickets may be purchased from any Kiwanis Pioneer member, or at the door. Bring friends and family to eat at the Temple, or carry out a meal to enjoy at work or home.

The annual chili feed is the organization's primary fundraiser each year. "Our club couldn't carry this off without the generous support of our community," Fort Scott Kiwanis Pioneers Club Vice President Susan Messer said.

Another of the Kiwanis Pioneer Club's yearly fundraisers is a concession stand at the annual Airport Day in September.

Kiwanis club members raise funds and donate time and energy each year to help support programs in Bourbon County such as Bourbon County Relay for Life, the Bourbon County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Bourbon County United Way Chapter, Bourbon County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Bourbon County Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, the Kansas Food Bank Backpack Buddies Program, History Day, Mother to Mother Ministry, Bourbon County Healthy Start, Head Start, The Beacon school shoes program, SOS parties at area high schools, Project Art at Fort Scott Middle School, the Community Prayer Breakfast and Breakfast With Santa.
